To promote alternatives to secure the right to better and sustainable livelihoods for 2000 people living in extreme vulnerabilities in Kyamuswa and Bufumira Sub Counties

Overview

\r\n

BIDA is implementing a four-year project entitled Promoting alternatives to secure the right to better and sustainable livelihood for 2000 men and women living in extreme vulnerabilities in Bufumira and Kyamuswa Sub counties - Kalangala District. The project started in 2012 and is renewable on annual basis depending on fulfilment of project conditions and availability of funds.The project is implemented with support from Kalangala Local Rights Programme (LRP), through partnership arrangement guided by a formal MOU. By end of this year, a total of 1100 people (660M&440F) are expected to have benefited from the project. Funding for this year isUg. Shs. 40,000,000.00 (Forty million shillings only).

Project objectives

  • 1-40% of the target households supported to improve incomes and food security through diversified production/enterprise mix.
  • \r\n
  • 2-30 women, youth and small farmersí groups supported to engage and participate in formulation, implementation and monitoring of both local and national sector plans and policies to address their livelihoods issues.
  • \r\n
  •  3-15 Women, men, youth and small farmers supported for climatic change mitigations and adoption measures, conflict resolution, peace building, diversification of livelihoods and make informed choices.

  • 4-Develop organizational capacity for BIDA and its affiliate groups to effectively deliver services to target population.

Strategy and coverage:
\r\nSTAR groups are used as avenues for creating awareness on rights of the community especially smallholder farmers, fisher folks and other vulnerable groups in particular women and youth in the two sub counties of Bufumira and Kyamuswa that form the catchment area of the sustainable livelihood programme.
